Suggested Improvements to New England Fire Departments. From the inaugural addresses of the Mayors of various New England towns the following recommendations concerning their several fire departments are abstracted and condensed, as follows: SOMERVILLE—Additional signal stations and hydrants, and, if everything is favorable, that another steam fire engine be purchased. QUINCY—New central station, also the establishment of a hose company in Ward 6, and a new three-circuit fire alarm repeater. WOBURN—New hydrants. NORTHAMPTON—The purchase of a large steam fire engine for the centre, and the transfer of the present small engine to Florence. NEWTON—The chief’s suggestions as presented in his annual report. NEW BEDFORD—Department to be increased. LYNN—Increased apparatus, including an engine and station near City Hall, a fire boat, and more apparatus on the west side.
