WATER SUPPLY —The National Tube Works have secured the contracts for the water-works at Ogden, Utah, and San Bernardino, Cal. The former will require thirty miles of Kalamein, 100 hydrants and 200 valves, and the latter twenty-one miles of the same style pipes, with seventy hydrants and ninety valves. —Robert Fenner, who superintended the construction of the water-works of the Le Mars (Ia.) Water and Light Company, writes that the system includes forty-four three-inch wells and eight miles of mains. The system is that of direct pressure. There are two compound duplex pumping Gaskell engines, made by the Holly Manufacturing Company, each of 1,000,000 gallons daily capacity. The company got into difficulties, and the plant is now in the hands of the sheriff, and its future uncertain. —L. J.
