WATER SUPPLY —The water-works at Greenville. Ala., will be built by the American Pipe Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia. —The Middlesborough (Ky.) Town Company has, it is reported, contracted for the construction of three reservoirs with a capacity of 30,000 gallons each for the water-works system. —Estimates have been prepared for the erection of an electric-light plant at the United States marine hospital at New Orleans, La. —The Senate committee on irrigation and reclamation of arid lands held a session on the 24th ult. to hear the reports of the chief engineer and agent in charge of the artesian wells investigation. Colonel E. S. Nettlcton, chief engineer, read a brief report. The Dakota artesian basin is shown to be the largest in the world, so far as at present developed.
