FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS —At seven o’clock on Friday morning fire broke out in an upper story of the great building of the Western Union Telegraph Company at Broadway and Dey street, New York. The structure has been regarded as practically fireproof, but as we go to press the whole upper part of the structure is burning like a tinder box. A number of the employees were driven to the roof, being unable to escape by the elevators or stairways, but the firemen, by means of life lines, and extension ladders raised from the roofs of the adjoining buildings, succeeded in rescuing them, and as we write it is believed that all are out of danger. Large crowds are massed in the surrounding streets and are loudly cheering the firemen. —A number of new fire alarm boxes are being placed on Eighth avenue, Sixty-sixth, Seventy-second, Seventy-sixth, Eighty-first,Ninetieth,Ninety-fourth and Ninety-eighth streets, New…
