Connecticut Firemen. The seventh annual convention of the Connecticut State Firemen’s Association was called to order in Jacques’ Opera House in Waterbury at 1.30 Tuesday afternoon by the president, Chief Hyatt of Meriden. A speech of welcome was made by Mayor Baldwin. The annual report of President Hyatt was an interesting one. He said the executive committee was of the opinion that an injured fireman could not receive a benefit unless he was hurt in doing actual fire duty rather than in doing routine work. The report given was as follows: The casualties for the year far exceed both in number and fatality those of the previous year. The total number of benefits paid were 76 ; or 19 more than during the previous year. Three were for death benefits caused by fire duty. The total amount paid for injuries was $2604 ; for death benefits, $1250, and for pensions…
