WATER SUPPLY. —South Acton, Mass., is taking steps toward securing a water supply from the system recently constructed at Maynard. —The drought of the present season has induced the prudential committee of North Adams, Mass., to secure an additional water supply by tapping James’ brook, about equal to the present supply from Broad brook. —Says The New London (Conn.) Day: “The completion of the high water service in this city is a public improvement of the highest possible value. How great an improvement may never be known, unless the occasion should arise when the increased water should be needed to conquer a great conflagration, and then the taxpayers would see their outlay paid back with interest in the course of a single night.
