TOPICS OF THE DAY WITH the beginning of a new year and another volume, FIRE AND WATER, not to be behind the times, has a brand new head dress to show. It is the outcome of many experiments, and, we think Dur readers will agree with us, is a considerable improvement upon last year’s style. THE danger of the use of cotton and cotton batting for Christmas decorations and costumes and like purposes, to which attention was called last week, was again shown on Christmas night at North Plainfield, N. J. A young man was playing Santa Claus in a dress of cotton batting, when it caught fire from the lights on the Christmas tree, and he was seriously burned, barely escaping with his life. The public generally certainly ought to know by this time the great risk run in putting this inflammable material to such uses. WHILE the members…
