PUBLIC WORKS —The sewer department of Springfield, Mass., reports for last year: Total brick sewers built, 1355 feet, for $6383; total vitrified pipe sewers, 13,938 feet, for $12,685 ; total cement pipe sewers for $1806. The total vitrified clay pipe built by special appropriation was 1490 feet for $1420, by private parties, 474 feet, and cement pipe built by private parties, 2811 feet, a total of 20,068 feet, at a cost of $22,295. The expenditures have been $35,221, with a balance unexpended of $265. The receipts from appropriation were $20,000, from entrance fees, $14,184, and from other departments and private parties, $1301. —A correspondent at Pullman, Wash., writes : “.The most important work undertaken by the city council will be the construction of a sewerage system for the business quarter. 1 hanks to the convenient lay of the land, this will not be an expensive matter, and a complete system…
