GAS AND ELECTRIC LIGHTING. The city council of Catlettsburg, Ky., has let a contract to the Carpenter Electric Light Company to furnish the city with electric lights for ten years. It is reported that the Edison General Electric Company of New York city, contemplates the erection of an electric-light plant in Baltimore to supply private residences. The Del Rio (Texas) Electric Light Company has let a contract to the Westinghouse Electric Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., for the erection of its electric-light plant. Dr. N. Aug. Otto, the inventor of the Otto gas engine, died January 26, at Cologne, Germany, after a short illness. The Day Railway Construction Company has been formed at Chicago, with a capital stock of $10,000,000, to construct surface, elevated and subway railroads.
