The Artesian Water Supply of New Orleans. The announcement made in yesterday’s Picayune that the artesian well in Lafayette square had ceased to flow created much anxiety among the residents of the neighborhood, many of whom are dependent upon the well for a material portion of their water supply. Realizing how great would be their embarrassment if the well were not restored to its normal condition within a short time, a reporter made some investigations yesterday concerning the possibility of getting it into successful operation once more, which resulted in the collection of some curious facts : It appears that the well in Lafayette square is by no means the only one in the city which has ceased to flow, or at all events, experienced a sensible diminution in the amount of its customary daily output.
