WATER SUPPLY ITEMS The illustration in this issue of the handsome fountain in Chicago won first prize in the Architectural Sketch Club competition of that city. E. F. Garden was the designer. In spite of the promises of a plentiful supply of water in the north end of the Town of Lake, Chicago, this season, the regular famine has made its appearance with every prospect of doing a rushing business all summer. In the vicinity of the stock yards of late water was so scarce that fires in water back stoves were extinguished as a precautionary measure. Now that building and street sprinkling have started, the demand for water has increased, and the prospects for the approaching hot season are not bright. There are indications that Brooklyn will very soon institute proceedings for the acquirement of the property of the Long Island water supply company under an act passed by…
