Newark’s Perplexed Water Question. THE city of Newark, N. J., has, upon the report of the engineering experts, Messrs. Fteley and Jacobson, voted to make the first payment of $4,000,000 to the East Jersey Water Company, provided, however, the East Jersey Water Company file a bond of $500,000 as a guarantee against any defects in the work. The amount of the bond named by the engineer experts was $300,000. The board of public works, however, concluded to make it $500,000. This bond of $500,000 will stand, with $2,000,000 as entire security for faithful performance and completion of contract with the city of Newark. It appears from the report of Messrs. Fteley and Jacobson that this sum of money is ample security for the complete performance of the contract exclusive of water rights, of which they have not sufficient data upon which to base a reliable opinion.
