WELL DRILLING NOTES. Mexia, Tex., is in great need of a good, flowing artesian well. The new water company of Belleville, Mo., has bored four artesian wells, each of which has a capacity of more than 100,000 gallons of water per day. The last well, No. 4, is an unusually fine one, 130 feet of fine white sand having been passed through before sandstone was struck. Fresh water has been struck, at a depth of 1000 feet, on the ranch of the Fulton Pasture Company, Portland, Tex. This success will be followed by the sinking of artesian wells on each 1000 acres of their extensive ranch. About the first of December Swan & Co. commenced an eight-inch artesian well to furnish power for the Ashton (S. Dak.) roller mills. An enormous flow has been struck at a depth of 1000 feet.
