The Boston Investigation. The inquiry begun on Tuesday of last week in Boston regarding the losses and causes of recent fires continues from time to time. Osborne Howes, Jr., who is responsible for the investigation, was on the stand Friday, and a great deal was expected from him. We present that part of his testimony that bears directly upon the fire department. Much of it referred to insurance, wires, building inspection, etc. After a letter had been read from Superintendent Samuel Abbott of the Fire Patrol, in which he stated that he had not signed any petition for an investigation of the fire department or of the management of fire, and therefore declined to appear before the committtee, Mr. Howes was called.
