Smith’s Tapping Machine. Anthony P. Smith’s connecting branch stem and tapping machine is entitled to well-merited consideration at the hands of water-works engineers and superintendents. The machine is all that is claimed for it through experiences that prove its utility and great advantage in application for the purposes which it is designed to accomplish. In our estimation this machine stands alone in the United States, and one needs but to see its operation in order to thoroughly appreciate the necessity for its use in consideration of the great saving of time and dispensing with the necessity for shutting off water on any portion of the system of distribution for the purpose of setting hydrants and inserting branch connections.
