Pacific Coast Departments. The Pacific Underwriter gives the following reports of some Western fire departments : Seattle (Wash.) Fire Department has 72 paid men and 35 volunteers; 5 steamers, drawn by horses with swinging harness ; I hand engine ; 3 chemical enengines ; 14,934 feet good hose. Water is supplied from Lake Washington by pumps to reservoir of 4,500,000 gallons capacity ; other supply is from fire boat and Coleman’s salt water system ; mains are from 6 to 24 inches, with pressure varying from 146 to 60 pounds. The fire department of Ukiah. Cal., is composed of 40 volunteers ; 1 hand engine ; 1 hook and ladder company ; 1 hose company and 700 feet of good hose. The water is supplied by pumps to reservoir with capacity of 240,000 gallons ; the mains are 4, 6 and 10-inch, with 65 pounds pressure. Healdsburg (Cal.) Fire Department…
