Pacific Coast and Canadian News. (From Our Regular Correspondent.) The amount collected to pay for the Midwinter Fair, to be held in San Francisco, is $300,000. The fair will open on New Year’s day and will close on June 30. The Pacific Coast Association of Fire Chiefs will meet in San Francisco on February 9. The loss by the burning of Bruce’s block in Hamilton, Ont., Can., reaches $70,000. The steamer Peru brings the following advices from the Orient: In a fire which recently destroyed 247 houses in the French concession at Shanghai, two children lost their lives. Estimates have been made to the Government of the grants necessary for the repairs of the damage caused by the late floods in Japan. The total amounts to over 11,000,000 yens.
