WATER SUPPLY The bids for the stand pipe for the Rockport, Mass., water Works were opened Tuesday evening. The Cunningham Iron Works of Cambridge was the lowest bidder, $6,400. The next was E. Hodge & Co., $6,725. The following were the bids submitted for the stand pipe foundation: Connolly Bros., Beverly, $2,600; John Woodfall, Rockport, $1,997; S. E. Bartlett, Rockport, $1,426; Knowlton & Parker, Rockport, $1,-482. The threatened coal famine at the St. Louis waterworks has been averted for at least two weeks. On May 30 a supply of Coal was received from Kentucky which will last until June 15, and if no more is secured by that time it is proposed to put in oil burners. Many of the big factories, however, have but a few days’supply of fuel on hand and unless the strike is settled in the next day or two they will be compelled to close…
