The Cincinnati Fire Department. A correspondent writes : It has been the intention of the Cincinnati Fire Commissioners for the past year to provide the fire department with a water-tower, but when the returns from the county auditor came in recently, it was found that the amount of taxes collected had fallen off so materially that they will be unable to buy one for some time to come. It is conceded that the purchase of a tower would save more than its cost in almost any of the important fires which may occur. The first thing to be done with the money that comes in is to lay all the department wires underground and even this, while it must be attended to at once, can not be done with any money now in sight.
