FIRE NEWS An Anomaly. The total fire loss in the United States for August amounts to $10,432,800. The heaviest single fire was in Chicago, where $450,000 worth of lumber and factories was destroyed. A blaze in Memphis caused $400,000 loss, one at Cincinnati $300,000. Eighteen fires occurred ranging from $100,000 to $250,000. Altogether the month was a very severe one. Ex-Chief D. H. Wixom of San Bernardino, Cal., was dined and wined recently on the occasion of his retirement from the force. He was also presented with a number of valuable articles by the men in the department. Rushville, Tnd., Fire Department has now for its Chief Isaac M. Ford, Andy Stifler 1st ass t, Samuel Rainey 2nd ass’t, Samuel M. Thompson sec’y and driver of hose wagon, James M.
