Reports. Newport, R. I. The total force of the fire department on January 1, consisted of 136 men. The equipment consists of five engines, two hose, one hook and ladder and one emergency company. During the year, eighteen hydrants have been added to the service, making in all 248. Total alarms responded to, seventy. The loss incurred by the fires, so far as the chief has been able to ascertain , was $11,311.88; the insurance on damaged property being $411,500.
