DAVENPORT, IA. The chief of the fire department reports that there are now twenty-seven paid members, the same as last year. No new apparatus has been purchased, the appurtenances of the department consisting of one chemical engine in combination with hose wagon, two hook and ladder trucks, three hose carriages, and three hose wagons, in good condition, one two-wheeled hand hose cart in fair condition, and one steam fire engine in poor condition. No horses have been changed, the present sixteen having been in service sometime. Of 82,950 feet of hose used at fires during the year, TOO feet proved so defective as to necessitate its being thrown out of service. One thousand feet of new hose were purchased. There is now on hand 9,050 feet, of which 4,800 feet are in good, 2,500 feet are in fair, and 1,950 feet are in poor condition. Expenditures for all purposes about…
