HARTFORD, CONN. The fire department received from appropriations $67,653; disbursements were $67,435, leaving a small balance. There were eighty-one bell and fifty-four still alarms, a larger number than last year, but notwithstanding that the serious fires have been less in number and have destroyed less property. The necessary expenditure for buildings has been larger, but as a whole they are in satisfactory condition. No unusual outlay for apparatus and hose was required to maintain the departments’ efficiency and it is now in good condition. In all the department haa 10,200 feet, of hose in good condition, .8,000 feet in fair condition and 4,700 feet of old and comparatively unserviceable hose. Some 2,000 feet will lie purchased this year. There are twenty-nine horses, but some are old and more or less useless. Only one serious accident has happened, when Foreman John W. Campbell of Engine 6 was injured when on duty.…
