This subject, by vote of the association last year, was continued and your committee to whom it has been referred respectfully submit the following report: This subject has been before this association for discussion and information for twenty years, and in our opinion should be agitated for some years to come, or until all buildings above fifty feet high are equipped with this appliance for extinguishment of fires in these buildings. The system has been adopted in the larger cities, consequently is no experiment. They are ordered by the New England Manufacturers Mutual Insurance company on cotton mills and other buildings which they consider bad risks, upon which, when adopted, a low rate for insurance is charged. The stand pipe may be connected to the sprinkler system, and will be found a positive working appliance. The size of the pipe should be large enough…
