WELLS The city of La Salle, Ill., is building an addition to its water works by putting down another well at Smith’s Spring, north of the city. They struck a flow of 300,000 gallons per day with it. The officials of Columbus, O., are considering the advisability of establishing on the west side a system of wells similar to the system prevailing on the east side but as yet no conclusion has been reached. The consideration is in line with the suggestion of the state board of health after its recent investigation of the proposed site for a dam in the Scioto and the river surroundings above the site. Another suggestion of the board was the use of filtering galleries, but there is no probability that this suggestion will be considered, the driven wells being preferable.
