FIRE NEWS Foreman William H. Sergeant of Engine company No 32 was killed and five other firemen injured in a fire in Philadelphia April 19th. The factory of the New York Biscuit company burned, causing $280,000 damage. Only a few irregular piles of bricks and some twisted machinery remain of the great factory. It is supposed that the fire started near the ovens, but when discovered was beyond control. The injured men are recovering. D. Arthur Burt, secretary of the executive committee of the Massachusetts State Firemen’s Association, has sent out the following announcement: The executive committee of the Massachusetts State Firemen’s association will be called early in May, to lay out the work for the sixteenth convention of this’association which will be held this coming fall (time and place to be designated by the committee, at their meeting).
