NEWTON (MASS.) WATER BOARD. The report just issued shows that 4,247 meters have been set, of which 8,275 are owned by the department and rented to the city. Last year the board set 25 Hersey, 429 Disc, 1 Nash, and 1 Metropolitan. Those now in use are divided as follows: Crown, 2,946; Hersey, 983; Disc, 732; Worthington, 260; Union Piston, 150; Union Rotary, 47; Thomson, 9; Dusper, 1; Thomson “Bee,” 1; Crown A, 5; Nash, 10, Metropolitan, 1; Indicators, 2. The water supply is from a battry of wells. Heretofore, wooden conduits have been used for collecting the water, but in the latest additions to the system a 24-inch vitrified pipe has been used instead. So far, the experiment is proving even more satisfactory than was anticipated, and the water is better in consequence ef the introduction of this method.
