WHEELING’S FIRE DEPARAMENT. The fire department of Wheeling, W. Va., asks for a new engine house for Atlantic company; hose; horses; a new combination wagon for Vigilant Engine house, and a new engine. It also asks for improvements in stables as well as for the quarters of the men. The city fathers’ prerogative of discretion is exercised in paring down the estimates submitted. But the firemen’s efficiency in fighting fire is expected to undergo no paring down even with inadequate equipment.
