MARTINS FERRY TEAM. Apropos of the recent tournament at the Cotton Exposition at Atlanta, Ga., is the following from W. E. Thomas, of the Independent hose company, of Martins Ferry, O.: “I was requested by the members of the Vigilant hose company who are subscribers to FIRE AND WATER and the “Fire Service Review”, to have you note that the team has a good record, having never been defeated in a race. The company was organized about six years ago, and on July 4, 1894, at Sandusky, O., it broke the world’s record one-half second. The total race was 281 2-3 yards. Run 165 vards and lay 200 feet of regular fire’ hose, uncouple, and put on nozzle. The cart weighs 420 pounds and carries 300 feet of hose. The Sandusky time was 29 seconds.
