PUMPING ENGINES A five-horse power DeLaval turbine in the works of a Paris gas company is kept at work throughout the entire twenty-four hours, and was recently found to have run 5300 hours, of which 3,600 hours was without a stop. The velocity of the circumference being 160 meters per second, the total distance traveled by it had been about 1,900.000 mile or 73 times the distance round the earth. In 150 days it bad traveled without a stop 53 times the distance round the earth! This Is made tbe more remarkable by the fact that the only attention given to the motor was tintilling of an automatic oiler once In every twelve hours.
