PERSONAL. Isaac P. Haulenbeck and William D. Stiff, both veteran firefighters have been retired on half pay from the fire department of Newark, N. J. Isaac Haulenbeek has been in the service since 1844, from which time up to 1854 he served as a volunteer and as assistant chief. He was engineer of steamer No. I. William Stiff, who has been a fireman for sixty years, was among the “Pilgrim landers ” of the New York Volunteer department, and more than fifty years ago, came over with others of the metropolitan firemen to help in putting out a big fire in Newark. Forty years ago, after serving as a fireman in Jersey City, he went to Newark. He was first attached to the old No. 5 company, then to No. 7, becoming engineer of steamer No. 4 in 1864.
