WATER-WASTE. HOW to prevent the enormous waste of water in our cities is one of the most serious problems which confronts the water-works men of this country. Millions of gallons of water are wasted every day, for which there is no adequate remuneration in proportion to the cost of fuel necessary to pump it and the wear and tear of expensive machinery. This expensive leakage should be stopped, especially in cities where the water supply is limited. Where water is abundant and the metering system is resorted to in order to check or place the responsibility of the continuous waste on the consumer, it would seem the difficulty had been remedied ; but such is not the case.
