SALT LAKE CITY. THE CONVENTION. [FROM OUR OWN REPORTER.] The FIRE AND WATER reporter, who left New York with the Eastern contingent for Salt Lake City, sends information from Chicago which goes to show that the convention will be more successful than wasat first anticipated. Hesays, under date of August 6: “Our party arrived here sound and in good spirits; we had a very pleasant trip over the West Shore railroad, which furnished the best accommodation that could be expected. The party was not in the least fatigued, owing to the complete arrangements made by FIRE AND WATER, for its convenience and comfort. During the course of the trip several chiefs joined us, among whom was Chief McConnell of Buffalo. It is awfully hot ; the warmest weather Chicago has experienced in many years.
