FIRE NEWS Public funerals were awarded the firemen of Benton Harbor, Mich., and St. Joseph, Mich., who perished in the recent disastrous fire at the former place. Several fraternal organizations, the Knights of Pythias and the Modern Mariners of America, and all the members of the fire department took part in the ceremonies. In both cities the flags flew everywhere at half-mast, and all the business houses were draped in mourning, and at Benton Harbor were closed on the day of the funeral—at St. Joseph for two days preceding it. At the latter place a fund has been started and a benefit will be given at the opera house for the widows and orphans of the deceased firemen, who have been left almost destitute.
