MODERN FIRE APPARATUS THE rapid strides that have been made in the application of appliances for fire extinguishment during the past few years, are probably unequaled by those of any other branch of municipal service. With the exception of electricity, more patents for fire apparatus and devices have been issued than for any other particular business. This shows that the subject of fire protection is receiving that consideration which it justly deserves. The number of lives lost, and the millions of dollars in property destroyed every year naturally create an intense public interest, and, with it, the desire to discover a means of reducing this great loss to the community at large.
