TEST OF NEW ENGINE AT ATLANTIC CITY, N J. A very successful test was made on March 18 and 19 of the new fire engine recently purchased by the Atlantic, N. J., fire company No. 2. from the American Fire Engine Company. The steamer is of the American pattern, second-size. The test was witnessed by many prominent citizens.firemen,and officials,and was made during the morning and afternoon of the two days. The first test, that of the 18th ultwas., devoted chiefly to pumping up salt water from the channel and was made at the Thoroughfare. The steamer proved its ability to do this in the most satisfactory manner. In the afternoon the engine was attached to a plug opposite the city hall. Steam was raised in six minutes and a stream thrown through a one and one-quarter-inch nozzle, a distance of 336 feet. There was forty pounds pressure from the plug…
