MARYLAND STATE FIREMEN’S ASSOCIATION. The annual convention of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association was held this year at Annapolis, President Hamilton in the chair. The usual routine business was transacted and resolutions in praise of the late William H. Dryden. vice-president of the association, entered upon the minutes. Secretary Stump’s report showed that during the year the association had increased from twenty-two to twenty-six companies. The secretary pointed out that the cities and towns of the State are “beginning to realize more and more the necessity of proper and sufficient equipments for their fire companies.” The receipts for the year were $341. A paper by Lloyd T. MacGill, jr., was read, its title being, “Is a Chief of Advantage to a Volunteer Fire Department ?” The discussion which followed showed the majority’s view to be that such an officer was no advantage.
