PACIFIC COAST NEWS [Special correspondence of FIRE AND WATER.] SAN FRANCISCO, June 25, 1897. The deaths of three firemen casta gloom over San Francisco. While working at a fire (as told in FIRE AND WATER) a wall fell.killing them instantly. With commendable proniptitute the Examiner of that city opened a subscription list for the widows and orphans. A public funeral was accorded the deceased.—The municipality of Richmond, on the Fraser river,British Columbia, organized a fire department on June 1. The town purchased a fire engine,hose,and reel, built cisterns, and is now prepared for fighting fire in the numerous salmon canneries or in the buildings used as stores and residences. D. Rowan is reeve of Richmond.—The city of Nanaimo, B.C., has chosen J. Parkins as chief of fire department in place of John Scales.
