THE DISASTROUS CHICAGO FIRE. Five firemen, instead of only three, lost their lives in the disastrous fire which took place in the Northwestern elevator on August 4. They were as follows: John F. Stramer, pipeman, of engine No. 3. He was instantly killed by a falling wall He entered the department on October 8, 1895. being assigned to engine company No. 6. He was not long in displaying good qualities as a firemen. He was a young man, only twenty-nine years of age, and leaves a wife and one child. Chas. M. Conway,was criver of engine No. 7.”He died at the county hospital the next morning,after suffering intensely. He lived at 293 Franklin street. He was formerly stationed at Rogers park, but in March was transferred to No. 437 Wells street. He was twenty-five years old, and was a brave and efficient member of the department. Jacob J .
