NEW YORK FIRE INSURANCE RATES. R. F. ALBERT REED, of the Tariff Association of the New York board of fire underwriters, has promised the fire commissioners of this city that, instead of the fire insurance rates being increased for the future, as they have been for the last four years in spite of the fire loss becoming less year by year in New York, they shall be reduced. This should have been the case without the demand having to be pushed; for, as Mr. Reed himself points out in his letter of reply to the request of the board of fire commissioners to that effect, a permanent reduction in the rate of fire loss to insurable property must eventually be followed by a reduction in the insurance rates.
