WATER DEPARTMENT, AUBURN, N. Y. Auburn, N. Y., which owns its water works, is reducing its water rates and promises still further reductions as the number of water takers increases. During the six months embraced in the report, sixty service pipe connections were laid. The pumpage was 565,322,520 gallons — a daily average of 3,072,405 gallons (115 gallons per capita). It is intended to replace about four miles of cement pipe and make further extensions at an estimated cost of $25,000. The receipts from water rates were: $12,779.37; by meter $6.749.81—total expenses, including interest. $30,328.51. Expenditures, $18,247.34. The minimum charge per month when a meter is employed is one dollar. The water commissioners are : C. Wheeler, jr., president; Samuel Laurie, William F. Wait; superintendent, J.
