POLITICS AT ST. PAUL, MINN. Politics is apparently trying to get in its fine work at St. Paul, Minn., where it is confidently stated that Mayor Doran intends to displace Horace E. Stevens on the board of water commissioners, when his term expires on January 1, and replace him by a Mr. Ames, a Second ward politician—the ultimate intention being to substitute Mr. Wolterstorff as president of the board, in place of R. B. C. Bement, who so ably fills that position at present. It is said that Mayor Doran objected to Mr Bement’s reappointment last January,because he refused to pledge himself to vote against the retention of Mr. John Caulfield as secretary. Mr. Bement did support Mr. Caulfield for secretary, and further supported Mr. Starkey for superintendent—neither of whom, it is claimed is in favor with Mayor Doran.
