Issue 23 and Volume 22.

WELLS The one or two artesian wells at Fort Scott, Kas., are all that stand between the people of that place and a complete water famine. The rainfall for about eight weeks has been too light to afford relief. The owners of the artesian wells are making large sums of money by selling the water. At Concord, N. H., Toof’s artesian well is now down 1,090 feet. The drill has penetrated the granite and is now working in a mixture of slate, soap stone, feldspar, and the like, showing that water will soon be reached. The artesian wells at Camden,N. J..from which the new water supply is derived, continue to flow uninterruptedly. The drilling of the thirteen additional wells has been begun by Contractor Pfeiffer.
