FIRE NEWS The report of the recent convention of the Fire Chiefs’ association of Ohio, at Columbus, as sent to FIRE AND WATER neglected to state that Henry A. Hills, of Wyoming, was elected secretary and George Follrath, of Springfield, treasurer. Five hundred feet of hose is to be purchased by the New Orleans. La., fire department, for the new hose carriage at Algiers. A report just received says that bids are being received for new hose to the extent of $2,000, for the use of the fire department. At Astoria, Ore., the factory of the Clatsop Mill Company the Columbia cannery, owned by B. A. Seaborg, the Union Pacific cannery, owne l by union fisherman, and the Leinenweber company were burned, causing a total loss of $50,000, with $20,000 insurance. The cause is not stated. An incendiary burned the Dunmore hotel, Dunmore, Pa. Two attempts had been made previously.…
