Massachusetts State Firemen’s Association. NINETEENTH ANNUAL CONVENTION. Southbridge, the Place of Meeting this Year WHAT IS TO BE DONE. SOUTHBRIDGE MASS, has been chosen as the place for holding the nineteenth annual corvention of the Massachusetts State Firemen’s association. The city, though small, is by no means devoid of life. Situated in Worcester county, it has a population of nearly 10 000 people, and a considerable amount of business is transacted in its midst. Its mercantile buildings are of brick, chiefly threestoried; its private residences are frame. The city was selected as a token of recognition of the excellence of its fire department, which enjoys quite a high reputation in the State—thanks in no small decree to the good work done by Chief Phipps, whose practical experience in every rank of the service has been added to a careful study of every detail connected with fire protection.
