A GOLD MEDAL FIRM. The accompanying cut shows a fac-simile of the gold medal awarded at the Cuban International exhibition in 1881 to Anderson & Jones, manufacturers of fire department equipments, of 190 Grand street, borough of Manhattan. N. Y. The medal was awarded for excellence in the particular line of goods supplied by the firm. Two Queen Anne two and one-half story stone cottages, 1202-1204 South Fifty-ninth street, Philadelphia, Pa., burned, owing to carelessness in the keeping of oil. The occupant of No. 1204 had gone to the outhouse to place a stopper in a fivegallon oil can from which his daughter had just taken some oil, and, being unable to find the can, he struck a match, the head of which fell off while lighted and ignited some oil which had been spilled on the floor.
