BOSTON has made its fire department still more efficient by the addition of an emergency wagon made up by the street department, and for special use in case of falling walls, collapsed buildings, or similar accidents. The wagon is equipped with ropes, jacks, shovels, crowbars, axes, saws, and such other tools as might be of service in case of a falling building fire, or other accidents. When occasion arises a telephone message to the city hall will bring the wagon and as many men as may be deemed necessary. THE introduction of water meters at Covington. Ky., has had some remarkable results. Some eight years ago when the fixture assessment system was in use, some 4,000,000 or 5,000,000 gallons of water were used daily.
