ELECTRIC SEARCHLIGHT FOR THE NEW YORK FIRE DEPARTMENT. AS was briefly announced last week, it is intended to add a thoroughly equipped, portable electrie searchlight to the New York fire department. The wagon on which it is to be carried will attend fires as a necessary part of the apparatus and will be used to investigate dark rooms, stairways, cellars, alleys, and the like. In general build it is not unlike a fire engine, with an engine and dynamo where the pumping apparatus should be fixed, behind the driver’s seat, where also are mounted two eighteeninch projectors, each with a diverging lens. If these are not used from the platform, they can be carried by the firemen to where they are needed—the communication with the dynamo being maintained by means of flexible cables, insulated with rubber.
