LATEST WATER NEWS. It is thought that the street and water commissioners of Hoboken, N. J., may adopt a system of compulsory water meterage. If adopted, however, it cannot go into effect until after the new supply under the Flynn contract is turned on. That will not be for at least three years. It is proposed to fix up the old reservoir on Summit avenue, and make that a receiving basin for the surplus of water over the quantity daily used by the city. These improvements will, it is estimated, cost close to a million dollars. To avert a lawsuit and insure a continuance of the temporary water supply now furnished by the East Jersey Water company, the Jersey City street and water board gave notice that on February 5, the water supply would he shut off from the premises of all consumers who are in arrears at that time.…
