CANANDAIGUA NEEDS MORE WATER. One hundred names were added last year to the list of water takers at Canandaigua, N. Y., with every probability of a large addition this year. The total number of taps up to December 31, 1899, was 921; total extension of mains 600 feet; total cost of construction up to date, $135,372.53; receipts from all sources during the past year (including a balance of $515.13 from 1898), $6,856.53; total expenditures, $6,056.71. The existing water works system will have to be enlarged—especially since the old system has been practically abandoned. The present machinery is overtaxed, and, with the probable increase of takers, and the certain increase of consumption in warm weather, there will be a danger of breakage. It is doubtful if the system, as it stands just now, will be able to meet the increased demand. It is thought that $15,000 will suffice for the additions…
